The Youth Builders After School program equips St. Louis youth with experiences and support that builds confidence, connection, and lifelong leadership – one afternoon at a time.
Through mentorship, creative projects, and career exploration, we help students discover their strengths, understand the needs of their community, and reach their full potential.
Under the guidance of educational director Twyla Lee, every participant gains a sense of confidence, resilience, and a deep commitment to their community through:
Academic Support & Tutoring: Homework help, study groups, and enrichment boost grades and build academic confidence.
Skill-Building Workshops: Hands-on projects and guided instruction help individuals develop practical skills in trades, entrepreneurship, STEM, public speaking, and the creative arts.
Mentorship & Leadership: Guidance from caring mentors builds self-confidence, allowing participants to lead team activities and practice personal responsibility through service to others.
Social & Community Activities: Field trips, volunteering, group challenges, and social events offer opportunities to promote friendship and positive peer connections.
Wellness & Mental Health: Weekly check-ins, creative self-expression and social-emotional learning support overall wellbeing.
Healthy snacks are served every afternoon and at least one hot dinner per week is provided. Prepared in our café, these reinforce healthy nutrition habits.
